Simone Weil on rights... - Curiosity killed the... wait, what was I talking about?

Mar. 18th, 2009 01:02 pm Simone Weil on rights...

Don't think that you have any rights. That is, don't obscure or deform justice, but don't think that one can legitimately expect that things happen in a way that conforms with justice; especially since we ourselves are far from being just.
Vertical superimposition.
There is a bad way of believing we have rights, and a bad way of believing we do not have any.
-Simone Weil, Notebooks, II.

Quoted in The Milan Women's Bookstore Collective's Sexual Difference [Also Known As: Non credere di avere dei diritti: la generazione della liberta femminile nell'idea e nelle vicende di un gruppo di donne. (Don't Think You Have Any Rights: The Engendering of Female Freedom in the Thoughts and Vicissitudes of a Women's Group)]
